Understanding, training, transforming: a center of excellence for a more responsible economy

TBS Education's mission is to train a diversity of open-minded and enlightened people capable of contributing to a more responsible and sustainable economy, thanks to research with a societal impact.

The Center of Excellence for CSR-Sustainable Development is a key pillar of this ambition. It brings together a community of researchers from a variety of disciplines to analyze and support ecological, economic and social transitions.

“The Center of Excellence for CSR-Sustainable Development is an essential pillar of TBS Education’s strategy.
Its mission is to produce and disseminate high-impact knowledge to support ecological, social and economic transitions. Through its research, it addresses not only students and learners, but also the academic community, companies, associations and public authorities, in order to contribute to the emergence of a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

The center brings together a team of teacher-researchers from a variety of disciplines to explore the complex issues surrounding CSR and sustainable development. This multi-disciplinarity, combined with the diversity of the methods and theoretical frameworks mobilized, enables us to provide innovative and nuanced perspectives on these subjects.

The Center of Excellence for CSR-Sustainable Development is actively involved in partnership research, mobilizing public and private resources to support innovative, high-impact projects. Working with organizations in the ecosystem, we develop strategic partnerships to support the ecological, social and economic transition.

Through academic research, we are committed to taking part in the debates that drive society by sharing our work in a variety of formats: teaching, conferences, articles, videos, media appearances…

Thanks to an interdisciplinary approach and a variety of methodologies, the research carried out by the Center of Excellence for CSR-Sustainable Development brings valuable and nuanced insights into major contemporary challenges.
Researchers work together on five main themes:

This line of research focuses on standards, public policies and models relating to the environment, the circular economy and sufficiency.

Public Policies and Models for Circular Economy and Sufficiency

This line of research analyzes business models, collective dynamics and public policies favoring sobriety, while exploring the social acceptability of the measures adopted and the impact of technologies, particularly digital ones, on the environment.

The individual as actor in a transitional society: identity, well-being and inclusion

This line of research explores how individuals adapt to and make sense of societal transitions, be they environmental, economic, social or digital.
It aims to analyze their interactions with others, technologies and organizational systems to understand the dynamics of inclusion and well-being.

Mobilizing interdisciplinary approaches, this axis explores the interactions and transformations shaping individual and collective experience. It draws on psychology, management science, and sociology to address contemporary challenges of identity, legitimacy, and resilience.

Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and Alternative Organizations

This line of research analyzes the dynamics of the Social Solidarity Economy (SSE) and alternative organizations, exploring their models of governance, their tensions between economic, social and environmental imperatives, and the compromises and innovations they are developing for a fairer, more sustainable future.

Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and Alternative Organizations

Through a critical approach to management and the social sciences, this area studies the involvement of individuals and organizations in the SSE and social movements, as well as their role in societal and environmental transition.

Gender Studies

This line of research adopts an interdisciplinary approach to analyze gender dynamics, inequalities and related societal transformations.
It focuses on interactions between gender and other social dimensions (class, disability, culture), as well as on mechanisms of domination and emancipation, mobilizing critical and institutional theories to better understand issues of governance and inclusion.

Gender Studies

Through diverse and complementary theoretical approaches (feminist theories, critical accounting, sociology of quantification and governmentality), researchers in the axis examine the impact of regulations, standards and measurement tools on equality policies, in order to identify levers for a more inclusive society.

Sport and Society

This line of research explores sport as a mirror of social, economic and institutional dynamics, analyzing how it shapes and reflects performance standards, bodily identities and power relations.
It highlights the inequalities linked to sporting standards, the commodification of sport and the growing influence of quantification devices on practices and bodies.

Sport et Société

Through a multidisciplinary approach, this axis explores inequalities in sport, the economic and political logics of sport-business, and the impact of quantification tools on athletes’ practices and bodies.

The CSR-DD Center of Excellence and the SDGs

The CSR-DD Center of Excellence’s research focuses on a wide range of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility.

Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) is a major thread, complemented by issues related to the environment (Goals 9, 11, 12, 13), governance (Goal 16), education (Goal 4) and human well-being (Goals 3, 5, 8).

Goal 4 – Quality Education is at the heart of each of the research areas, guaranteeing a pedagogical approach designed to prepare TBS Education students and learners for the challenges of sustainable development.
