Based on a review of various market risk factors, our guest speaker Laurent-Olivier VALIGNY will put events from March 2020 into perspective and draw some conclusions in terms of practical risk management. Laurent-Olivier will share insight on the material impacts that COVID-19 has had on financial markets with notable increase seen in volatility, credit spread and liquidity premiums. On top of that, price distortion, market fragmentation and asset classes dislocations triggered some panic selling.

Laurent-Olivier Valigny started his career as a consultant in a financial software company (Concept Banque et Finance). He moved to Société Générale in 1991 as a Trading Floor manager in the Treasury department. Over his 12 years at Société Générale he held various positions in the area of proprietary trading and market risk management in the fixed income and foreign exchange departments. Laurent-Olivier then joined HSBC in 2005, as Head of Market Risk & Valuation Controls in Paris. He became Global Head of Valuation Control in 2009 and worked for a time in their London office. Specialist in his field, he lecturers regularly at TBS and other French Universities and Business Schools.
